James Anderson to Give 2014 Brown Lecture—Register Now to Attend or Watch Live Online
At AERA’s 2014 Brown Lecture in Education Research on October 23, Dr. James D. Anderson, noted expert on American education history and desegregation, will examine how landmark moments in the American struggle for political and education equality continue to cast a long shadow over American social justice today. 
 
IES Reauthorization Bill, Reducing NCES’s Autonomy, Advances in Senate
This week, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions approved the Strengthening Education through Research Act, which in reauthorizing the Institute of Education Sciences, severely erodes the autonomy and efficacy of the National Center for Education Statistics. 
 
Capitol Hill Briefing on Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing Draws International Audience
More than 100 on-site attendees and 750 online viewers from at least 15 countries turned out September 12 for a Capitol Hill briefing on the just-released 2014 edition of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing
 
AERA Names Juliane Baron Director of Government Relations
Beginning her position on October 1, Baron will lead AERA’s education and advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies, serve as advisor to the executive director, and play a strategic role with committees and coalitions.
IES Reauthorization, Evaluating Research Outcomes Were Key Topics at OIA Fall Policy Meeting
AERA’s Organization of Institutional Affiliates held its annual Fall Policy Meeting on September 14 and 15. Participants met with top research policy experts to examine the challenges facing key federal education programs and discuss research policy issues receiving attention within their organizations.
 
AERA and AIR Examine Schools, Rules, and Socialization Effects for Students
A research conference held by AERA and the American Institutes for Research aimed to map and integrate scientific work across fields and to provide direction and focus for future research.

AERA Council Approves Member Dues Increase
After evaluating the financial base of the Association and the resources required to accomplish AERA’s strategic mission and goals, Council concluded that a dues increase was prudent. Annual dues will increase to $180 for regular members and $55 for students. 
 
President-Elect Calls for Committee Nominations
AERA President-Elect Jeannie Oakes invites AERA members to submit committee nominations for themselves or for colleagues, saying, "Your professional service is vital to the ongoing work of the Association."
