AERA and OECD to Hold Policy Forum on New TALIS Video Study Results On November 24, AERA and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development will hold an interactive policy forum to discuss new results from the TALIS Video Study. AERA, AAAS, and Key Researchers Call on OMB to Require NSF to Include Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Measures in Surveys In a jointly signed letter on October 25, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine; Sudip S. Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; New York University professor Jonathan B. Freeman; and Laura E. Durso, executive director and chief learning officer of the Whitman-Walker Institute, urged the Office of Management and Budget to work with the National Science Foundation to include sexual orientation and gender identity measures in the 2021 National Survey of College Graduates or, at a minimum, initiate piloting of SOGI questions as part of NSF’s testing of new survey modifications. AERA Executive Director Urges Withdrawal of ICE Proposed Rule on International Student Visas On October 26, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine submitted a letter in response to a proposed rule from the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau that would impose time limits on visas for international students, foreign exchange visitors, and representatives of foreign information media in the United States. AERA Joins Letter Urging Administration to Rescind Series of Actions Limiting Diversity Training in Federal Agencies On October 7, AERA and 49 other scientific organizations sent a letter to Russell Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, to urge the Trump administration to rescind elimination of federal employee training programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Melanie Buffington, 47, died on September 16. She was an associate professor of art education and interim chair of the art education department at Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a member of AERA Division G - Social Context of Education. Read more
Roger Kaufman, 88, died on September 23. Kaufman, an AERA Fellow, was professor emeritus at Florida State University and served as Distinguished Research Professor at the Sonora Institute of Technology. He was a member of AERA Division J - Postsecondary Education. Read more Frank Worts, 78, died on August 9. He was an assistant professor and lecturer in the Human Services Departmet at Lincoln University and directed the institution’ s continuing education program. Read more
