Gloria J. Ladson-Billings to Present the Eighth Annual AERA Brown Lecture in Education Research
WASHINGTON, October 27, 2011—Gloria J. Ladson-Billings, Kellner Family Chair in Urban Education and Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and 2005-2006 AERA President, will present the 2011 Brown Lecture in Education Research on October 27 in Washington, D.C.

Education Research Shows LGBTQ-identified Students At Higher Risk than Straight-identified Students
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 12, 2011—New research findings reported in the October 2011 issue of Educational Researcher highlight differences between LGBTQ- and straight-identified youth in health outcomes and educational equity. The peer-reviewed scholarly journal is one of six published by the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

AERA Journals Top 2010 Impact Factor Rankings for Education and Education Research
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 30, 2011—The six journals of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) lead the latest education journal rankings released this week in the 2010 Journal Citation Reports (JCR). AERA journals placed in the top two spots and six of the top 25 spots in the JCR Education and Education Research category. This category consists of 177 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.

Three AERA Members Appointed to President Obama's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 26, 2011—President Barack Obama announced the appointment of three AERA members to the President's Advisory Committee on Educational Excellence for Hispanics along with 12 other appointments. These three scholars have notable research track records of excellence that will add to the work of this commission. In addition to being an active member of AERA, Alfredo Artiles is a current At-Large Member of the AERA Council, a Past Vice President of Division G – Social Context of Education, and an AERA Fellow. Other appointees who are AERA members and Fellows include Patricia Gándara and Marta Tienda. 

AERA Honors Education Researchers at the Association’s 92nd Annual Meeting
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 22, 2011—The American Educational Research Association (AERA) has presented Catherine E. Snow, the Patricia Albjerg Graham Professor of Education at Harvard University, its Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award for her wide-ranging and influential research in language and literacy development during the past 33 years. Her research is noteworthy for its solid grounding in both linguistics and psychology and its impact on theory and practice.

Former Commissioner of NCES Receives 2011 Distinguished Public Service Award at the American Educational Research Association’s 92nd Annual Meeting
April 4, 2011, NEW ORLEANS, LA—The American Educational Research Association (AERA) will present the Distinguished Public Service in Education Award to Emerson J. Elliott, former commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), at the Association’s 2011 Annual Meeting in New Orleans. This award is granted annually in recognition of an individual who has worked to enact or implement policies that are well grounded in education research, or who has been at the forefront of efforts to increase recognition and support for education research.

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 14, 2011—Leading scholars and private foundation presidents shared the stage to highlight the payoffs of long-term investment in education research today at a Capitol Hill briefing. Speakers emphasized that education research based on long-term funding has led to important payoffs for education policy and practice in such areas as resource allocation, school and classroom organization, and the education and evaluation of teachers. The Education Deans Alliance, American Educational Research Association, and the National Academy of Education convened the briefing. All briefing materials, including factsheets about the four education research programs, are posted on the AERA Web site.
 
Four Education Researchers Selected as Editors of AERA’s Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis
WASHINGTON, January 19, 2011—Education researchers and policy experts Mark Berends, Laura S. Hamilton, Luis A. Huerta, and Ron W. Zimmer have been appointed as incoming editors of Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA). Beginning with the 2013 volume year, the team of scholars will serve as editors for a three-year term. EEPA, a multidisciplinary policy journal that focuses on educational evaluation, educational policy analysis and the relationship between the two, is published quarterly by the American Educational Research Association (AERA). 

AERA Releases Studying Diversity in Teacher Education
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 10, 2011—The American Educational Research Association (AERA) announces release of its new volume Studying Diversity in Teacher Education, published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., on behalf of AERA. Although there is a considerable body of knowledge on diversity in education, research focusing on diversity in teacher education is sparse. This important book adds considerably to what we know and points to promising directions of future research. 
 
New Coeditors Appointed for RER Volumes 2012-2014
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 6, 2011—Two accomplished scholars—Zeus Leonardo and Frank C. Worrell—have been appointed to serve as coeditors of the Review of Educational Research (RER). Leonardo and Worrell are both faculty members at the University of California-Berkeley Graduate School of Education. These editors will commence their appointments on July 1, 2011 and become the coeditors of record for the 2012 through 2014 volume years.
