AERA Encourages 2018 End-of-Year Giving
AERA is encouraging members and friends of education research to make an end-of-year contribution to important AERA initiatives. The AERA “ask” is focused on vital sets of activities supported through the Second Century Fund and the Minority Dissertation Fellowship Fund. Read more

AERA Issues Statement on School Safety Commission's Recommendation to Repeal Federal Guidance on School Discipline
In a December 18 statement, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine said the Federal Commission on School Safety’s recommendation to repeal 2014 federal guidance calling on schools to address race-based disparities in school discipline was deeply disappointing and represented a step backward. AERA Awarded Grant to Support Research Training in Deeper Learning
The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has awarded AERA a $1.5 million grant to support the AERA Fellowship Program on the Study of Deeper Learning. Read more

Registration and Housing Now Open for 2019 Annual Meeting
Registration and housing are now open for the 2019 AERA Annual Meeting. The meeting will take place in Toronto, Canada, April 5-9. Read more

FABBS Holds Annual Meeting
On December 3, the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences, of which AERA is a founding member, held its 2018 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Read more

Department of Education Proposes Changes to Title IX Regulations; Comments Due January 28
The Department of Education released proposed regulatory amendments to Title IX regulations in a Federal Register notice on November 29. Read more

White House Releases STEM Education Strategic Plan
On December 4, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee on STEM Education released a five-year STEM education strategic plan to ensure that all Americans have access to high-quality STEM education and that the United States is a global leader in STEM literacy, innovation, and employment. Congress Struggles to Resolve Spending Impasse; Additional Committee Changes Announced
At press time, FY 2019 funding for seven appropriations bills—which includes funding for the National Science Foundation—is set to expire on December 21. Read more
