AERA Comments on Proposed Changes to the Civil Rights Data Collection On November 18, AERA submitted comments on proposed revisions to the 2019–20 administration of the Civil Rights Data Collection, which includes data on leading civil rights indicators related to access and barriers to educational opportunity from early childhood through Grade 12. President Trump Appoints Three Members to National Board for Education Sciences On November 22, President Trump announced his intent to appoint three members to the National Board for Education Sciences, which advises the director of the Institute of Education Sciences on the agency’s activities and approves priorities and peer review procedures for IES. Three Education Researchers Appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board On November 13, the NAGB announced six new member appointments and one reappointment made by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Three education researchers are among the appointees. Read more
On November 21, President Trump signed into law a second short-term continuing resolution to extend funding for FY 2020 at FY 2019 levels through December 20. This provides additional time for Congress and the administration to resolve differences on several policy issues. Read more
