Annual Meeting Registration, Housing, and Microsite Launch
It is not too soon for participants and other attendees to make plans for the 2020 AERA Annual Meeting, which will take place April 17–21, 2020, in San Francisco, California. Meeting registration and housing opened November 20. Read more

AERA and UCEA Convene to Chart Course for Research on Educational Leadership Preparation
On November 11–13, AERA and UCEA held a research conference, “Advancing Knowledge About University Contributions to Professional Learning in Educational Leadership,” at the new AERA Convening Center in Washington, D.C. Read more

 

AERA-NSF Grants Program Holds Fall Research Conference
The AERA Grants Program, supported by NSF, held its annual Fall Research Conference October 31–November 2 in the AERA Convening Center. It brought together dissertation and early career awardees and scholars, Governing Board members, federal agency representatives, and other scholars and experts. Read more 

AERA Seeks Applicants for Institute on Statistical Analysis—Deadline: December 18
The AERA Grants Program, supported by NSF, has announced the AERA Institute on Statistical Analysis: Development of Mathematics Competencies in Early Childhood, a professional development and research capacity–building activity directed to advanced graduate students and early career scholars. AERA invites applications for the AERA Congressional Fellowship Program, which provides an exciting opportunity for AERA members to use education research to inform public policy while working on Capitol Hill.

AERA Comments on Proposed Changes to the Civil Rights Data Collection
On November 18, AERA submitted comments on proposed revisions to the 2019–20 administration of the Civil Rights Data Collection, which includes data on leading civil rights indicators related to access and barriers to educational opportunity from early childhood through Grade 12. Read more

President Trump Appoints Three Members to National Board for Education Sciences
On November 22, President Trump announced his intent to appoint three members to the National Board for Education Sciences, which advises the director of the Institute of Education Sciences on the agency’s activities and approves priorities and peer review procedures for IES. Read more

Three Education Researchers Appointed to the National Assessment Governing Board
On November 13, the NAGB announced six new member appointments and one reappointment made by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Three education researchers are among the appointees. Read more

Negotiations on FY 2020 Appropriations Continue as Second Short-Term Funding Bill Is Signed

On November 21, President Trump signed into law a second short-term continuing resolution to extend funding for FY 2020 at FY 2019 levels through December 20. This provides additional time for Congress and the administration to resolve differences on several policy issues. Read more
