AERA to Offer Deep Annual Meeting Registration Discounts as Part of Two-Year Memberships At its June 25 meeting, AERA Council approved deep discounts on annual meeting registration for individuals who join or renew as two-year members of the association. Read more
Special Notice—Refund Requests for 2021 AERA Annual Meeting Registrations All 2021 Annual Meeting registrants who have not yet requested a refund or a credit toward the 2022 AERA Annual Meeting are urged to do so before or by the July 31 deadline, 11:59 p.m. PT. The association has reached out weekly to all paid registrants to encourage those seeking a refund to opt in and advance such a request. AERA Undertakes External Review of 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting Platform Performance AERA has undertaken an external review of the 2021 Annual Meeting to further the association’s understanding of the technological challenges related to the virtual platform and what can be learned from the experience. AERA Names Two Congressional Fellows for 2021-22 AERA has named two early career scholars as AERA Congressional Fellows for 2021–22. The Fellows will spend a year in Washington, D.C., working as staff for a member of Congress or a congressional committee, and will use their education research expertise, outside of the academic setting, to inform public policy. AERA Announces Recipients of Dissertation and Research Grant Awards AERA has announced 12 recipients of its Dissertation and Research Grant Awards. The recipients are studying salient and relevant topics in education research that directly address or indirectly inform STEM, such as science course-taking trajectories, student achievement gaps, and access to higher education. AERA Nominating Committee Seeks Recommendations for 2022 Elected Officers—Deadline: September 1 The AERA Nominating Committee seeks recommendations of candidates for AERA-wide offices. National Academies Hold Additional Public Meetings on IES Research Programs and NCES The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held meetings in late June and early July on two panel studies focusing on programs within the Institute of Education Sciences. Read more
House and Senate Advance NSF Reauthorization Legislation on Bipartisan Votes In June, the full House and Senate voted on legislation that would serve to reauthorize the National Science Foundation. Read more
FY 2022 Appropriations Process Kicks Off with House Markups With the release of the Biden administration’s budget request in late May, congressional appropriations committees have been working on legislation to fund the government for FY 2022, beginning on October 1. Read more
OCR Releases Resources on Title IX The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights released a new resource related to Title IX: Questions and Answers on the Title IX Regulations on Sexual Harassment (July 2021) and a related Appendix. The Q&A clarifies how OCR interprets schools’ existing obligations under the 2020 amendments to the department’s Title IX regulations.
White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Requests Information to Improve Federal Scientific Integrity Policies The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is seeking comments to help improve the effectiveness of federal scientific integrity policies to enhance public trust in science. The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. ET, July 28. Read more

Katherine Rosich, 79, died on July 5, 2021. She served as senior policy analyst at the American Educational Research Association, where she was centrally involved in the founding of the World Education Research Association and the Americas Education Research Network, data sharing and open knowledge initiatives, and COVID-19 impact studies on early career scholars and doctoral students. Rosich was a member of AERA Division F (History & Historiography).
