Leslie Fenwick to Examine the Unfulfilled Promise of Brown in the 20th Annual Brown Lecture on October 19
In her Brown Lecture on October 19, Leslie T. Fenwick, professor and dean emerita at Howard University and dean-in-residence at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, will explore the untold story of how the implementation of Brown has maintained segregationists’ control over the nation’s public schools, to the detriment of all students, especially Black students. Read more

Virtual Component of 2024 AERA Annual Meeting Cancelled

Nearly 4,700 full-text papers presented at the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting were added to AERA’s open access Online Paper Repository in August. Read more

AERA has opened the 2023 AERA i-Presentation Gallery, providing open access to more than 2,000 presentations from 2023 Annual Meeting paper, roundtable, and poster sessions and symposia. Read more

The National Science Foundation is seeking candidate recommendations for its Assistant Director for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences position. Recommendations, including any supporting information, are requested by September 8. 

The National Science Foundation invites proposals for research and implementation projects that advance understanding of sexual or other harassment and inform anti-harassment efforts in STEM.

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away

William D. Greenfield, 79, died on June 22. He was a professor emeritus of educational policy, foundations, and administrative studies at Portland State University. Greenfield was a member of Division A–Administration, Organization, and Leadership.

Diane Mahony Monrad, 72, died on August 4. She was director of the South Carolina Educational Policy Center in the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. Read more

Florence Rita Sullivan, 59, died on June 1. She was a professor of math, science, and learning technologies in the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Sullivan was a member of Division C–Learning and Instruction and Division K–Teaching and Teacher Education, and was former chair of the Technology as an Agent of Change in Teaching and Learning SIG. Ryan Joseph Ziols, 46, died on July 16. He was an assistant professor at Georgia State University in STEM/STEAM education. Ziols was a member of Division B–Curriculum Studies. Read more
