AERA Executive Director Levine Addresses the Politics of Science Funding at the EuroScience Open Forum
On July 13 in Toulouse, France, Felice J. Levine participated in a panel at the EuroScience Open Forum, the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe. The biennial event typically draws over 4,000 attendees from around the world. Read more
AERA Journals Top International Education and Educational Research Rankings
Two AERA journals are ranked in the top ten of the Journal Citation Reports for their 2017 impact factors, released in June. AERA’s journals are included in the “Education and Educational Research” category, which includes 238 peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Read more
2018 Annual Meeting Papers Now Available in Open-Access Online Repository
More than 3,300 full-text papers presented at the 2018 AERA Annual Meeting were added to AERA’s open-access Online Paper Repository in June. In total, over 30,000 papers from the past nine AERA annual meetings are available online. Read more

Lupia to Lead NSF’s Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate
On July 9, Arthur (Skip) Lupia, Hal R. Varian Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, was named the new assistant director for the National Science Foundation’s Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate. His term begins September 1. Read more
Albro Appointed for IES Commissioner of NCER; Other Education Appointments Confirmed
Elizabeth Albro was appointed to serve as commissioner of the National Center for Education Research at the Institute of Education Sciences and began her new role on July 9. Prior to this, she served as the associate commissioner for teaching and learning at NCER. Read more
Dillingham Nominated for Census Bureau Directorship
On July 18, President Trump announced the nomination of Steven Dillingham, who has served in leadership roles at federal statistical agencies, to serve as the next director of the United States Census Bureau. The nomination requires Senate confirmation. Read more
 
HHS Releases Draft Guidance for Burden-Reducing Provisions in Revised Common Rule
In June, the Department of Health and Human Services delayed the general compliance date for the 2018 requirements of the revised Common Rule to January 20, 2019, to allow the implementation of three burden-reducing provisions for research studies. Read more
