New AERA Fellows To Be Inducted at Annual Meeting AERA has announced the selection of 12 prominent scholars as 2020 AERA Fellows. AERA Fellows are selected on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements. They join 665 current AERA Fellows and will be inducted during the 2020 AERA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Read more
AERA Minority Meta-Analysis Fellows—Deadline for Applications: March 16 With support from the Spencer Foundation, AERA invites applications from underrepresented minority researchers seeking to pursue meta-analyses in their education research. President’s Budget Proposes Deep Cuts for Federal Agencies Supporting Education Research and Troubling Changes to IES The Trump administration released its budget request for FY 2021 on Feb. 10. Surprisingly, the request includes a proposal for reauthorizing the Education Science Reform ACT (ESRA), which provides the authority for the research, statistical, evaluation, and dissemination programs within the Institute of Education Sciences. White House OSTP Seeks Public Comment on Public Access Policies Related to Federally Funded Research—Deadline to Comment: March 16 On Feb. 19, the White House OSTP and the NSTC Subcommittee on Open Science issued a request for public comment to seek recommendations on approaches for ensuring broad public access to the peer-reviewed scholarly publications, data, and code that result from federally funded scientific research. NIH Seeks Input on Scientific Priorities for Behavioral and Social Science Research (Deadline: March 29) and Comments on Strategic Plan Framework (Deadline: March 25) The NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research issued an RFI on Feb. 18 to solicit feedback on research directions aligned with the priorities included in the current OBSSR Strategic Plan. NIH also issued an RFI on Feb. 12 to gather input on the framework of the agency’s overall strategic plan for FY 2021–25. Read more
2020 Yidan Prizes—Deadline for Nominations: March 31 The Yidan Prize for Education Research recognizes outstanding research that contributes in significant ways to education. The Yidan Prize for Education Development recognizes innovative ideas that tackle important challenges in the field of education.
2021 Grawemeyer Award in Education—Deadline for Nominations: April 15 The Grawemeyer Award in Education is intended to stimulate the dissemination, public scrutiny, and implementation of ideas that have potential to bring about significant improvement in educational practice and advances in educational attainment.
