AERA 2017 Election – Voting Opens January 31
On January 31, 2017, AERA will open the 2017 election with voting conducted by electronic ballot. Voting members will receive a personalized link by e-mail to access their ballot.
AERA Centennial Lecture Series Spotlights College Access and Success in Los Angeles
On January 11, AERA held its third Centennial Lecture and Discussion Forum in Los Angeles with Bridget Terry Long of Harvard University as the featured lecturer.
Centennial Lecture Series Continues February 22 in Oklahoma City with Focus on Early Child Care and Education
On February 22, the fourth AERA Centennial Lecture and Open Forum will feature Deborah Lowe Vandell (University of California, Irvine), who will present on “The Opportunities and Challenges of Early Child Care and Education.”

Neild Steps Down at IES, Brock Named New Interim Director 
Ruth Curran Neild left her position as the delegated director of the Institute of Education Sciences on January 13. Neild had served in this role since 2014, after the departure of John Easton.
 
HELP Committee Sends DeVos Nomination for Education Secretary to Full Senate
On January 31, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted 12–11 along party lines to approve the nomination of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary, to be considered by the full Senate.
 
Education Committees Take Shape for 115th Congress 
With the swearing in of the 115th Congress at the beginning of January, committees responsible for funding and authorizing agencies supporting education research have announced both new and familiar faces.
