AERA Announces Transition to Hybrid Format for 2022 Annual Meeting
On October 28, the AERA Council voted to shift the 2022 Annual Meeting in San Diego from being a place-based-only meeting to one that also offers a virtual meeting component. Read more

Lori Patton Davis Gives 2021 Brown Lecture to Worldwide Audience

In 2014 AERA launched AERA Open, its first fully open access journal and among the first open access journals in the social and behavioral sciences published by a research association. Read more

Bill Riley to Retire as Director of NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research
On September 30, William T. Riley, director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research and the Associate Director for Behavioral and Social Sciences Research at the National Institutes of Health announced that he would retire at the end of December 2021. Read more

AERA Member Scott Marion Among Appointees to National Assessment Governing Board
On October 13, the Department of Education announced that Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona appointed five members to the National Assessment Governing Board. Read more

Senate Appropriations Committee Releases Remaining FY 2022 Bills
On October 18, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) released the drafts of nine bills for FY 2022 appropriations, including legislation that provides funding for education research and statistics. Read more

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away

Robert Branson, 89, died on July 28. He retired from Florida State University in 2006, where he had served on the teaching faculty and directed the Center for Educational Technology. Read more

Robert Alan Fox, 78, died on October 1. He was a professor emeritus of physics and long-time chair of the physics and astronomy department at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He was a member of AERA Division L–Educational Policy and Politics and served as chair of the School Choice Special Interest Group. Read more
