AERA Announces New Editor Team for Educational Researcher
AERA has announced the appointment of Nicholas Bowman (University of Iowa) as the new editor-in-chief of Educational Researcher for 2024–2026. Joining Bowman are three co-editors: Olusola O. Adesope (Washington State University), Brian P. An (University of Iowa), and Anjalé (AJ) Welton (University of Wisconsin, Madison). Read more

NIH Prohibits Use of Generative AI in Peer Review Process
On June 23, the National Institutes of Health issued an update to existing policy regarding confidentiality and privacy in the peer review process to clarify that NIH peer reviewers are prohibited from using generative artificial intelligence tools in reviewing proposals. Read more

IES has released the FY 2024 Education Research Grants Program Request for Applications (RFA). The application deadline is September 21, 2023. Through this grants program, IES supports both basic and applied research focused on helping to improve education experiences and outcomes for learners in the United States.

In Memoriam


AERA members who have recently passed away

Don Beach, 76, died April 19. He was a Regents Professor and former dean at Tarleton State University. Beach was a member of Division A–Administration, Organization and Leadership. Read more

Clive M. Beck, 84, died on June 30. He was a professor emeritus at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Read more

Judith A. Dawson, 84, died on July 25. She retired from the Illinois State Board of Education, where she worked in evaluation and assessment. Read more

Mary Kennedy, 80, died on July 1. She was a professor emerita at the College of Education at Michigan State University. Read more
