On July 19, AERA joined 47 signers of a multisociety statement on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. University of North Carolina. On June 29, the Court ruled that the race-conscious admissions policies at both institutions were unconstitutional.

In their statement, the societies attributed America’s strength and economic competitiveness to “its domestic and international talent across every race, ethnicity, gender, and geography.”

They also expressed their commitment to advancing strategies to broaden participation in STEMM fields in light of the Supreme Court ruling.

The statement is one of many that have focused on the decision, including last month’s AERA statement from Executive Director Felice J. Levine and President Tyrone Howard.
