Elise Boddie Delivers 2024 Brown Lecture
On October 24, Elise Boddie presented the 2024 Annual Brown Lecture in Education Research, “Brown v. Board of Education and the Democratic Ideals,” to an in-person audience of over 650 and a virtual audience of more than 1,775, representing 57 countries. Read more

Following a successful two-year initial run at the 2023 and 2024 AERA Annual Meetings, AERA is continuing its focus on youth education research and youth teams in a renamed program called Research Engagement and Development with Youth. Read more

President Biden Appoints Joan Ferrini-Mundy, Alondra Nelson to National Science Board
On October 15, President Joe Biden announced his intention to appoint eight members to the National Science Board, including Joan Ferrini-Mundy, former assistant director of the National Science Foundation Education and Human Resources Directorate, and Alondra Nelson, former deputy director for science and society with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Read more

OMB Issues Final Trust Regulation Rule
On October 10, the White House Office of Management and Budget announced the final rule for the Fundamental Responsibilities of Recognized Statistical Agencies and Units, also known as the “Trust Regulation.” Read more

Steve F. Ferrara, 73, died on August 6. He was principal research scientist at HumRRO. Read more

Barry J. Fraser died on October 17. He was John Curtin Distinguished Professor at Curtin University. Fraser was an AERA Fellow and one of three founders of the Learning Environments SIG. Read more

Caroline Sotello Turner, 78, died on June 19. She was a professor emerita in the College of Education at California State University, Sacramento. Turner received the AERA Scholars of Color in Education Distinguished Career Contribution Award in 2009. Read more
