AERA to Cosponsor June 12 Capitol Hill Briefing on Weapons and School Violence On June 12, AERA, the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, and the National Academy of Education will hold a congressional briefing to address current scientific research surrounding the pressing need to reduce violence in schools and communities. AERA Names Two Congressional Fellows for 2019–2020 AERA has named two early career scholars as AERA Congressional Fellows for 2019–2020. The Fellows will spend a year in Washington, D.C., working as staff for a member of Congress or a Congressional committee, and will use their education research expertise, outside of the academic setting, to inform public policy. House Appropriations Committee Advances FY 2020 Bills for Education Research Agencies On May 8, the House Appropriations Committee held a markup hearing on the 2020 fiscal year Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. NIH OBSSR Releases Updated Definition of Behavioral and Social Science Research The National Institutes of Health Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research announced a revised definition of “behavioral and social science research” on May 14 after seeking public input earlier this year.
