New Editor Team to Take Helm of AERJ
AERA has just announced the new editor team for the American Educational Research Journal (AERJ) for the 2020–2022 volume years. Ellen Goldring has been appointed as editor-in-chief, and Michael Cunningham, Sean Kelly, Madeline Mavrogordato, and Peter Youngs will serve as coeditors. Read more

AERA to Cosponsor June 12 Capitol Hill Briefing on Weapons and School Violence
On June 12, AERA, the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, and the National Academy of Education will hold a congressional briefing to address current scientific research surrounding the pressing need to reduce violence in schools and communities. Read more

AERA Names Two Congressional Fellows for 20192020
AERA has named two early career scholars as AERA Congressional Fellows for 2019–2020. The Fellows will spend a year in Washington, D.C., working as staff for a member of Congress or a Congressional committee, and will use their education research expertise, outside of the academic setting, to inform public policy. AERA Provides Comments on IES Proposed Priorities
On May 28, AERA submitted comments in response to the proposed priorities for the Institute of Education Sciences published in the Federal Register. Read more

AERA Showcases Research Advancing Science Learning at 25th Annual CNSF Exhibition on Capitol Hill
AERA member Mimi Recker, professor of instructional technology and learning sciences at Utah State University, participated in the 25th Annual Exhibition of the Coalition for National Science Funding on April 30. Read more

New RRE Volume Explores the Significant Challenges in Changing Teaching Practice
The 2019 volume of Review of Research in Education (RRE), titled “Changing Teaching Practice in P–20 Educational Settings,” casts a sharp lens on the challenges and opportunities faced by those who work toward changing teaching practice as well as those who research these efforts. Read more

AERA 2019 Annual Meeting Webcasts Released
The 2019 AERA Annual Meeting brought more than 14,000 scholars, policy leaders, students, and practitioners to Toronto, Canada. Webcasts of 16 major sessions, including the Opening Plenary, the Presidential Address, and more, are now available on the AERA YouTube channel.
AERA Releases "Study Snapshots" on Papers from 2019 Annual Meeting
Following its 2019 Annual Meeting last month in Toronto, Canada, AERA issued brief overviews, or snapshots, of selected papers presented at the conference. AERA's "Study Snapshots" provide a high-level glimpse into new education research.

House Appropriations Committee Advances FY 2020 Bills for Education Research Agencies
On May 8, the House Appropriations Committee held a markup hearing on the 2020 fiscal year Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. The bill advanced on a 30–23 party line vote. Read more

NIH OBSSR Releases Updated Definition of Behavioral and Social Science Research
The National Institutes of Health Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research announced a revised definition of “behavioral and social science research” on May 14 after seeking public input earlier this year. Read more

White House OSTP to Examine Improving Research Environments
On May 7, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy announced the creation of the National Science and Technology Council Joint Committee on Improving Research Environments. Read more
