Nation’s Report Card to Add New State-Level Assessments Under Expanded Schedule On May 15, the National Assessment Governing Board approved a new testing schedule for the National Assessment of Educational Progress that will expand the availability of state-level results in key subjects and grade levels. AERA Public Witness Testimony to House Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee on FY 2027 (May 8) In public witness testimony, AERA called for FY 2027 appropriations of at least $9.9 billion for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and $2.111 billion for the Census Bureau. AERA also urged the subcommittee to reject the proposed elimination of the NSF Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate included in the FY 2027 budget request.
Open Letter to Congress on National Science Board (May 11) AERA joined as an endorsing organization alongside thousands of individual members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and other scientists in urging Congress to reinstate terminated National Science Board members and fill vacant seats.
Knowledge Alliance Letter Urging Obligation of FY 2025 Appropriated Funds at the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) (May 18) AERA joined 97 organizations in a letter to Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought calling for the timely apportionment and obligation of congressionally mandated FY 2025 funds for IES. According to an analysis by the Knowledge Alliance, $289 million in FY 2025 IES funding would lapse if not obligated by September 30.
Letter to Appropriations Leaders on Supporting FY 2027 Funding for the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill (May 22) AERA joined hundreds of organizations in a multi-coalition letter requesting the highest possible allocation for the Labor–HHS–Education appropriations bill for FY 2027.
