More than 15,500 Attend Annual Meeting in San Francisco
More than 15,500 registrants attended the 2013 AERA Annual Meeting, with standing-room-only turnout common at many events, from presidential sessions and award lectures to symposia and sessions on science and research policy. Read more

AERA to Launch Open Access Journal
The American Educational Research Association announced today that it will launch AERA Open, an online, peer-reviewed journal that will be freely available to all readers on the web. AERA Open is expected to start publishing articles in early 2014. Read more

AERA Executive Director Comments on Federal Open Access Policies
AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine submitted statements presented at public meetings last week on increasing access to the results of federally funded scientific research at two events held by the National Research Council’s Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education.

AERA-MET Dissertation Fellowship to Launch
AERA is initiating a dissertation fellowship program to build research capacity in using the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) Longitudinal Database. Read more

AERA Issues Report on Prevention of Bullying
AERA issued a new report during the Annual Meeting titled Prevention of Bullying in Schools, Colleges, and Universities: Research Report and Recommendations. The report results from the work of a blue-ribbon AERA task force mandated to prepare and present to the AERA Council practical short-term and long-term recommendations to address bullying of children and youth, with a focus on legislative, policy, and procedural matters. The report was adopted by Council in February 2013. Read more

AERA Continues to Defend Federal Role in Basic Research
AERA continues to respond to attacks on federal funding of high-quality, peer-reviewed research in all scientific fields. Most recently, AERA signed on to the Coalition for National Science Funding’s (CNSF) letter to congressional members expressing concern over new attempts to assert influence over the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) merit review process. AERA Council Approves Human Rights Statement
The AERA Council unanimously approved an Association Statement on Human Rights during its meeting on April 27, 2013. The AERA Statement on Human Rights codifies the Association’s commitment to ensuring the protection of all scholars and the freedom of persons to engage in and benefit from the free exchange of ideas. Nominating Committee Seeks Recommendations
The AERA Nominating Committee has issued a call for recommendations of prospective nominees for the 2014 AERA elections. The committee invites all AERA members to submit recommendations for the office of President-Elect and for two Members-at-Large. Read more
