AERA leaders discuss the meaning  and importance of the 2015 Annual Meeting Theme – "Toward Justice: Culture, Language, and Heritage in Education Research and Praxis" – in five new videos featured on the AERA website.

NSF Appropriations Stall on Senate Floor
While the Senate was expected to debate and vote on a set of appropriations bills for FY 2015 that includes funding for the National Science Foundation, during the week of June 16, the “minibus” stalled on June 19 as senators objected over the process of voting on amendments. 


IES to Receive Small Funding Increase in Senate Appropriations Proposal for FY 2015
AERA and other Friends of IES signed on to a letter to the chairs and ranking members of the full Senate Appropriations Committee and the Labor-H Subcommittee to request adequate funding levels in FY 2015.

Easton and Commissioners Brief National Board for Education Sciences
On the heels of announcing his departure, IES Director John Easton urged the National Board for Education Sciences to think about the qualifications and skills needed for the next IES director, fleshing out statutory language for the position. 


Eminent Social Scientists Appointed to National Science Board
On June 13, President Barack Obama announced his intention to appoint Robert Groves and James Jackson, two eminent social scientists, to the National Science Board.

New: Call for Education Research Conference Proposals – Deadline: September 10
AERA supports research conferences intended to break new ground in substantive areas of inquiry, stimulate new lines of study on issues that have been largely unexplored, or develop innovative research methods or techniques that can contribute more generally to education research.

Reminder: Call for Annual Meeting Submissions - Submissions accepted June 2 – July 22
The 2015 Annual Meeting theme is intended to focus our attention on justice—locally as well as globally—in a spirit of mutually respectful collaborative engagement with our disciplines and modes of inquiry in the context of the world around us.
 
Reminder: Call for Prospective Nominees for 2015 AERA Elections – Deadline: July 25
The Nominating Committee invites AERA members to submit recommendations on prospective nominees for the office of President-Elect and for two Members-at-Large. 
 
Reminder: Call for Award Nominations – Deadline: October 15
The submission deadline for all 2015 AERA-sponsored awards is October 15. Nominations for all awards must be submitted electronically using the AERA award nomination e-form. 
 
Reminder: Call for Nominees and Applications for American Educational Research Journal Editorship
The Journal Publications Committee of AERA invites nominations and applications for the editorship of the American Educational Research Journal.
