Division C AERA 2027 Workshop Series

Division C is happy to announce a 4-part workshop series on submitting proposals to AERA 2027 meeting:

  • June 23d, 2026, 2pm:  Advancing a “Session Submission.” “Session Submissions” are fully planned sessions, which include presentations from multiple authors; typically, from different institutions. Sessions can take following forms: symposia, structured poster, working group roundtable, workshop, demonstration/performance, or an offsite visit. In this session, we will overview what a session submission looks like, the expectations for these proposals, and tips for impressing reviewers. We will also discuss the pros and cons of each of the session types.
  • June 30th (2 pm EDT) Workshop 2  - Advancing a “Paper Submission.” “Paper Submissions” are for complete papers authored by one or more persons describing scholarly work. Paper Submissions will be placed into one of the following types of sessions by the program committee: paper sessions, poster sessions, and roundtable sessions. In this session, we will overview what a paper submission proposal looks like, the “rules” for submission, and tips for impressing the reviewers. We will also discuss the overall review process and how decisions are made.
  • July 7th (2 pm EDT) Workshop 3 -  Finding a Division/SIG for your Proposal. AERA has 12 major Divisions each of which includes between 2 and 11 sections (73 total sections) and over 150 Special Interest Groups (SIGS). This means there are many places one can consider when deciding where to submit your work. In this session, we will take a big-picture perspective with a group of panelists who are part of and submit to multiple Divisions and/or SIGs. The scholars will share their strategies for finding their right “home” for conference proposals, that is selecting a Division or SIG, but not necessarily the specific section.
  • July 14th (2 pm EDT) Workshop 4 - Finding a Division C section for your proposal. You have decided to submit to Division C: Learning and Instruction. Excellent choice! This year Division C has a new section structure; so, in this session, we will help to explain some of the distinctions between sections to help people find the best section for their work. We will also provide insight into the newly created sections such as “Community Engaged Approaches to Learning and Instruction” or "Teaching Practices, Instructional Discourse, and Classrooms.” Those might provide a great home for people who do not typically submit to Division C.

These workshops are free and open to everyone; so, please share widely. We are asking that you register for attendance at this link: https://forms.gle/ZheFKd3gdzQk58zr6. We will send out the Zoom link for each workshop on the morning of each workshop to the emails collected via this form.

Keep an eye out for more details on these workshops!

We look forward to seeing you!
