Division D Newsletter Request for Submissions

We invite Division D members to submit their recently published articles for inclusion in the Division D Newsletter! This new resource highlights our collective scholarly contributions over the past year, making it easier for members to stay updated on the latest research in measurement, statistics, quantitative and qualitative methods, and mixed methodologies. By sharing your work, you are helping fellow researchers, professors, and practitioners access relevant studies for syllabus updates, literature reviews, and future research collaborations. Frontiers in Adult Education Research

The conference and workshop, “Frontiers in Adult Education Research: Applying Process Data Techniques to the PIAAC Dataset,” will highlight interdisciplinary research in adult education, large-scale assessments, and data science techniques. Attendees can look forward to talks, poster presentations, and ample networking opportunities. This event aims to inspire educational researchers, policymakers, and instructors by showcasing insights provided by PIAAC and the potential of large-scale assessments in adult education.

NCME Special Conference, Artificial Intelligence in Measurement and Education Conference (AIME-Con)

The National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) will host this special conference in-person in Pittsburgh, PA, on October 27-29, 2025, at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown. The theme is “ Innovation and Evidence: Shaping the Future of AI in Educational Measurement”. 

This conference aims to gather an interdisciplinary group of experts from education, artificial intelligence, measurement, natural language processing, assessment, learning analytics, and technological development to foster learning across all groups. 

The AIME–Con will include training sessions on October 27, and keynote, poster, and paper presentations on October 28 and 29. We welcome individuals to sign up to facilitate training sessions and review proposals. Proposal submissions for paper and training sessions will open in early spring and are due May 31, 2025. Notifications of acceptances will be sent around July 1, 2025.

Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy and Practice

Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy & Practice is a leading journal for scholarly output in the field of educational assessment. The journal is explicitly international in focus and encourages contributions from a wide range of assessment systems and cultures. Following APA standards, the journal publishes both theoretical and empirical scholarship that directly advances assessment theory, policy, and/or practice across formal education contexts.

Special Issues are an important feature of Assessment in Education. Each Special Issue focusses on a select topic of high interest to the Assessment in Education readership, and reflects an area of assessment that is timely, critical, and debated. Special Issues should seek to present multiple perspectives from diverse geographies on the selected topic. A list of previous Special Issues can be viewed here.

Assessment in Education is currently seeking proposals for Special Issues. All Special Issues in the journal must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Special Issues will have a minimum of seven articles plus an editorial
  • Special Issues will be managed by Guest Editor(s) and be assigned one regular Editor
  • Contributing articles should be obtained through an open call process
  • Conference-based Special Issues must include opportunity for additional contributors through an open call process
  • All articles must all be submitted for external peer review as per the journal's usual policy
  • All article processing will be administered through the ScholarOne Manuscripts platform

Submission Instructions

Proposals for Special Issues in Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy & Practice should include the following elements:

  • Proposed Special Issue title
  • Description and rationale for the Special Issue topic (250 words)
  • Plan and approach for soliciting manuscripts (150 words)
  • Anticipated issue timeline
  • Guest Editor(s) scholarly background and editorial experience (250 words)

Proposals should be no more than 1,000 words plus any references and appendices.

Questions and proposals should be submitted to the Lead Editor of the journal, Christopher DeLuca at cdeluca@queensu.ca by June 1, 2025. All proposals will be reviewed by the journal’s Executive Editorial Board.


2025 ATLAS Research Fellowship at the University of Kansas

Accessible Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Systems (ATLAS) at the University of Kansas is excited to announce our 2025 ATLAS Research Fellowship Program. This annual fellowship offers doctoral students an opportunity to conduct research and evaluation projects in support of technology-based learning and assessment systems.

Our research priorities for this year's fellowship program focus on the following areas.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Applications within an operational educational assessment program
    • Applications to advance research methods
  • Diagnostic Classification Models (DCMs)
    • Evaluating the properties of longitudinal diagnostic classification models and their application to operational assessment programs
  • Other proposal ideas relevant to our mission and projects will be considered.

Global Perspectives in Measurement & Research Methodologies: AI and Emerging Technologies

This invited session will be presented during the 2025 AERA Annual Meeting in Denver. Chaired by Dr. Jiawei Xiong, talks will be presented by Prof. Ying (Alison) Cheng (The University of Notre Dame) on “Fairness in AI and Educational Measurement: Similarities and Differences,” Prof. Jimmy de la Torre (The University of Hong Kong) on “Reimagining Assessment and Learning with Modern Psychometrics and Technological Advances,” and Prof. Okan Bulut (The University of Alberta) on “Navigating the AI Revolution in Educational Measurement: Opportunities and Challenges.”

The session is Friday, April 25, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm MDT in Meeting Room 712, the Colorado Convention Center.


Generative AI Ethics Module Design Sprint Workshops

Join AI ethics experts and pedagogy experts for a 3-day hybrid workshop on generative AI ethics for undergraduate STEM educators at Michigan State University.
