AERA Expresses Concern over Visa Problems for International Scholars and Offers Recommendations
June 2009

The American Educational Research Association joined a coalition of 31 organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and The National Academies, in issuing a statement of concern about visa delays for international students, scholars, and scientists and the backlog of visa applications affecting their opportunity to study, conduct research or attend conferences in the United States.  The organizations urged that steps be taken to streamline the process and offered a set of recommendations. In addition, they called for convening a high-level interagency panel to review the full range of visa-related policies and procedures put into place after 9/11.
