Tabbye M. Chavous is executive director of the American Educational Research Association. A nationally recognized scholar and seasoned leader, Chavous brings over 25 years of experience and significant accomplishments in research, teaching, and organizational advancement. Across her career, she has consistently advocated for high-quality, inclusive research, and her equity-oriented leadership is evident in her approaches to building and transforming educational environments.
President Maisha T. Winn
Maisha T. Winn, the Excellence in Learning Graduate School of Education Professor at Stanford University and Faculty Director of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning's Equity in Learning Initiative, is president of AERA. Her one-year term began at the conclusion of the association’s 2025 annual meeting.

Jerome Morris, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Urban Education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, was voted president-elect of AERA in 2025. His presidency begins at the conclusion of the association’s 2026 annual meeting.
Immediate Past President Janelle Scott
Janelle Scott, professor and the Birgeneau Distinguished Chair in Educational Disparities at the University of California, Berkeley, in the School of Education, is immediate past president of AERA. She served as president in 2024-2025.
Honorary President Edmund W. Gordon
Edmund W. Gordon, a distinguished education researcher renowned for his pioneering scholarship on the gaps in education opportunities and supports for children of color and low-income students, was named AERA honorary president. Gordon, the first person in AERA’s 105-year history to receive this recognition, was installed as honorary president at the association’s 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting.
