Senate Appropriations Committee Approves Small Cuts to IES, Boost to NIH in LHHS Bill
For the first time in seven years, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bipartisan Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations bill this month. The $161.9 billion bill for FY 2017 is a net reduction of $270 million from FY 2016.
Education Department Accepting Comments on Draft ESSA Accountability Regulations
The Department of Education issued draft regulations on May 31 that would guide states and school districts in implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The draft regulations focus on three areas: accountability, state plans, and data reporting.
NIH to Launch Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study
This summer the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is launching a major longitudinal study on child health and brain development that will be of interest to many in the education research field.
NACHHD Council Meets
The National Advisory Child Health and Human Development (NACHHD) Council met on June 9. The council is charged with advising, consulting with, and making recommendations to the director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) on matters related to the research and research support activities and other functions of the institute.
