December 2021

As of January, AERA is providing all members with free electronic access to its entire suite of journals, reducing its carbon footprint and providing members with much more content. If members prefer to also get print copies, they can purchase them additionally. With this new approach, all members will receive electronic access to all AERA journals without cost, and they will only pay a small amount if they choose to receive hard copies.

Currently, AERA members receive electronic access to Educational Researcher (ER) and one other journal of their choice; members also receive print copies of these journals. If they wish to receive additional AERA journals, they must pay $20 ($10 for students) for each additional subscription.

“This is a substantial benefit for our members, who receive expanded access to AERA journals. In making this decision, AERA Council seeks to promote environmentally sound practices,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine.

Accessing the online journals will also be easier than before because members will no longer need a separate login and password for the SAGE website. To access the content, all members need to do is log in to their My AERA accounts and scroll to the Publications section in the middle of the page. There, members will see links to each of the journals; these links will take members directly to the ungated content. Also new in 2022, AERA will send monthly emails with the table of contents of just-released journal issues, which will allow members to access new content in real time.

AERA will still offer print copies to members for a nominal fee per journal ($20 for members, $10 for student members for each subscription), and accommodations can be made under special circumstances. For example, for members who cannot physically use the web or state that they do not have web access, AERA will continue to send ER and one print copy of a journal of their choice.

To join or renew membership in AERA, log in or create an account on the AERA website to start the membership process.
