Dorothy L. Espelage is Professor of Psychology at the University of Florida. Over the last 22 years, she has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles, six edited books, and 70 chapters on bullying, homophobic teasing, sexual harassment, dating violence, and gang violence. Her research focuses on translating empirical findings into prevention and intervention programming.

Dr. Espelage advises members of Congress on bullying prevention legislation and conducts regular webinars for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and National Institute of Justice to disseminate research. She authored a 2011 White House brief on bullying among LGBTQ youth and attended the related White House conference. 

She has served as a consultant for the stopbullying.gov website, the Department of Health and Human Services' national anti-bullying campaign, and NIH's Pathways to Prevention initiative to address bullying and youth suicide. She has appeared on many television news and talk shows and has been quoted in the national print press.

Dr. Espelage is the recipient of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Lifetime Achievement Award in Prevention Science and the 2016 APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Public Policy, and is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and APA. She earned her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Indiana University.
