Co-Chairs of the Joint Committee Leading the Revision of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing Are Named

The Management Committee of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (the Standards) and its sponsoring organizations – the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) – have announced the selection of the co-chairs of the Joint Committee, charged with leading the process of revising the 2014 edition.

Andres (Andy) De Los Reyes is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. De Los Reyes is past chair of APA’s Board of Educational Affairs, current editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical and Child Adolescent Psychology, and a longstanding member of APA. His expertise is in psychometrics and clinical assessment of diverse populations in developmental and mental health contexts. He received his PhD in clinical science from Yale University.

Ye Tong is the senior vice president of assessment operations at the National Board of Medical Examiners, past president of NCME, longstanding member of AERA and NCME, and a founding member of Women in Measurement. Tong is a nationally recognized expert in measurement, with publications and presentations in areas such as equity in assessment, equating, computer adaptive testing, and educational policy. She received her PhD in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa.

"We applaud the selection of these two highly talented experts to lead this important revision of the Standards,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “This volume represents the gold standard in guidance on testing, and Dr. De Los Reyes and Dr. Tong are exceptionally qualified scientists to take the helm as we move forward.”

The Standards Management Committee will work with Tong and De Los Reyes to select Joint Committee members. The Joint Committee will then engage in a multi-stage revision process, one that will ultimately make the revised Standards more timely, relevant, accessible, and therefore useful in today's context of educational and psychological testing. The Management Committee is comprised of official representatives from all three organizations: Michael Rodriguez (AERA), Fred Oswald (APA), and Kristen Huff (NCME).
