Speakers Include AERA’s Executive Director, President, and President-elect

WHAT

The American Educational Research Association will hold an online “Worldwide Gathering for Reflection, Presentation, and Rededication” at 3:00–4:00 pm EDT Sunday, April 19. In the midst of the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zoom-based event comes a month after the cancellation of the association’s 2020 Annual Meeting, originally scheduled for April 17-21 in San Francisco.

This event is free and open to the public. Please register in advance to receive the link to the event. A video recording of the event will be made available afterward.

You can engage with the conversation on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram by using the event hashtag #AERAPresPresentation.

WHO

The schedule of speakers includes AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine, AERA President Vanessa Siddle Walker (Emory University), and AERA President-elect Shaun R. Harper (University of Southern California).

This AERA gathering will begin with opening reflections by Levine, who will briefly reach out to the education research community worldwide during this uncertain time.

Following Levine’s remarks, Walker will give her presidential presentation, “Once Upon a Time in a World Left Behind: A Historical Script of Power and Possibilities.” Walker will examine lessons learned from the past struggles of educators and policy leaders and how they can inform responses to the adversities we face today.

After her talk, Walker will pass the virtual gavel to Harper, who will assume his one-year term as the association’s president. Reaffirming the association’s continued engagement in the challenging transitions ahead, Harper will provide brief concluding remarks.
