AERA Joins With DBASSE to Host Social Science Symposium

AERA is collaborating with the National Research Council’s Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education (DBASSE) to host the “Social and Behavioral Sciences in Action” symposium. The symposium will be held at the National Academy of Sciences on September 24, 2:00–5:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend remotely are encouraged to register for the webcast on the DBASSE website.

This event is the first in a series highlighting the contributions of the social and behavioral sciences to various disciplines. It will focus on the impacts of social and behavioral research in national security, medicine, and engineering. Key speakers include Kenneth Prewitt of Columbia University, who chairs the DBASSE Advisory Committee; Rita Colwell, Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland, College Park; and Mary Cummings, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Comments will be presented by Ralph J. Cicerone, president of the National Academy of Sciences and chair of the National Research Council; Harvey V. Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine; and Charles M. Vest, president of the National Academy of Engineering.
