September 2016

AERA will launch a Centennial Lecture Series featuring education research lectures to be held across the United States from November 2016 through April 2017. The series will feature six lectures with each accompanied by an open discussion forum of policy leaders and scholars.

This new lecture series is part of AERA’s commitment to promoting public engagement and fostering new conversations between the education research community and policy and practice sectors across the country. The series aims to bring innovative education research on important topics directly to a wide number of cities.

“Our aim is straightforward,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “It is all about reaching out to cultivate an interest in research use and learning more about what communities need and seek from research.”

The series of lectures will launch following the 13th Annual AERA Brown Lecture in Education, scheduled for October 20, in Washington, D.C. The first Centennial Lecture will be held on November 30 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Each of the six lectures will be delivered by a leading education researcher on a range of critical topics including English language learners, college affordability, predictors of learning, early childhood education, urban school reform, and school discipline. The open discussion forum that will follow each lecture will help connect to local issues and allow attendees to participate more fully in asking questions or presenting views.
