AERA President Janelle Scott recently concluded her appointment of new members to AERA standing committees. Standing committees are those that AERA Council deems necessary for operating over long spans of time and on a continuing basis. Varying in functions and responsibilities, they serve to support and guide Council on important education research issues (e.g., a change in the scope of the AERA Annual Meeting or the mission of a journal) or serve to advise AERA on programs, initiatives and activities (e.g., serve as the peer review group for the Minority Fellowship Program).
Standing committee terms are usually three years with typically two members appointed each year by the president for open positions, with input from the AERA executive director. Award committee members serve for two years, and new appointments to these committees will be announced in the October issue of Highlights.
“AERA committees are vital to the sustained success and growth of our organization,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “The new members appointed by President Scott will do important work to ensure the association continues to meet its strategic objectives and fulfills its mission.”
