NAGB serves as the policymaking body for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the Nation’s Report Card, for activities that include identifying subjects to be assessed, approving test questions, and making results relevant and useful for public audiences.

The open positions include:

  • General Public Representative – Parent Leader
  • Local School Board Member
  • Non-Public School Administrator
  • State Legislator – Democrat
  • State Legislator – Republican
  • Testing and Measurement Expert

The four-year terms for members appointed in 2024 would begin on October 1, 2024. The education secretary is responsible for making appointments to NAGB.

AERA members are encouraged to nominate themselves or a colleague representing one of the open position categories to serve on NAGB. Nominations are due October 31 and can be submitted through the NAGB website. Nominations require a personal statement, CV, and letter(s) of support.
