November  2020

AERA and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are partnering on a webinar on the research needs and implications of the Academies’ report Monitoring Educational Equity. This moderated forum will be held on December 15, 3:30–5:00 p.m. EST. The aim is to focus on a select set of indicators addressed in the report, including exposure to racial, ethnic, and economic segregation; non-exclusionary disciplinary policy; access to non-academic support for students; and access to high-quality academic support.

Building educational equity systems is a compelling opportunity. But what are the steps and what does the research community need to do? Questions for this interactive forum include:

  • How should such indicators be conceptualized?
  • What does research tell us about the state of such indicators to date?
  • What research needs to be done before an indicator is ready for prime time?
  • What kinds of equity indicators would most get to the heart of inequities in education?

Please join us and contribute to the forum. Participants include Christopher Edley Jr. (The Opportunity Institute), Laura Hamilton (ETS), Sean Reardon (Stanford University), and Karolyn Tyson (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill). All served on the Academies panel that produced the report.
