June 2025
On June 27, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) opened up the NIH Brain Development Cohorts (NBDC) Data Hub. The data platform includes data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive DevelopmentSM (ABCD) Study and the HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study.
The NBDC Data Hub includes the most recent versions of data from both longitudinal studies. The ABCD Study 6.0 release includes data from baseline through the six-year follow-up visit, which contains neuroimaging data. The ABCD Study is examining brain development and child health, as well as childhood experiences that affect brain, social, emotional, and cognitive development, including those that directly affect classroom behavior and academic success.
The HBCD data represent the initial release that includes data from more than 1,400 pregnant participants during the prenatal period and follow-up data from babies from half of those participants. The data set covers prenatal health, exposures, infant behavior, brain imaging, EEG, biosensors, and more The HBCD Study is seeking to understand how the brain develops and is affected by exposure to substances and other environmental, social, and biological factors during pregnancy and after birth.
