As reported in June Highlights, we are pleased to follow up on the joint communication from AERA Executive Director Felice Levine and AERA President Janelle Scott announcing that Felice would be stepping down as Executive Director in June 2025. As co-chairs of the Search Committee for the next Executive Director, we want to update the AERA community.

In the short time that has passed since the June announcement, the search for the next AERA Executive Director has begun, the full Search Committee has been appointed, and we have made progress in considering search firm options.

The Search Committee is as follows:

Co-Chairs:
Deborah Loewenberg Ball, University of Michigan
Na’ilah Suad Nasir, Spencer Foundation

Committee Members
Alfredo J. Artiles, Stanford University
Nicole Johnson, Howard University (Student Member)
Michal Kurleander, University of California, Davis
Margaret Maaka, University of Hawaii, Manoa
Kent McGuire, Hewlett Foundation
Nicole Mirra, Rutgers University
Nathan Tanner, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign (Student Member)
Vivian Tseng, Foundation for Child Development

It is a strong group with a range of experience, perspectives, and expertise, and we are excited to run an open, equitable and rigorous search on behalf of the Association. We are beginning a set of outreach activities to learn more about what the role of Executive Director will demand in the coming years. We will be reaching out to you to ask about the issues you see as top of mind in the field, the challenges and opportunities you see as being on deck for AERA, and what capacities you think are important for the next Executive Director of AERA.

Watch your email for a brief survey in August to ask for your input. We look forward to working with the AERA community and hearing from you about this important search.

Sincerely,

Deborah & Na'ilah
