Three AERA journals are ranked in the top 10 in the “Education and Educational Research” category of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released in June. That category now includes 263 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.

JCR ranked the journals by their 2019 impact factor, which is the total number of 2019 citations of each journal’s 2017 and 2018 articles, divided by the journal’s total number of articles published during those two years.

For the third year in a row, Review of Educational Research (RER) is first in the rankings. RER once again had an impact factor over 8 points, with 8.327. RER’s five-year impact factor is 12.654, which is nearly 4 points higher than the second-place journal.

American Educational Research Journal (AERJ) and Review of Research in Education (RRE) experienced significant movement this year as both entered the top 10 for the first time in several years. AERJ jumped from 15th to 5th in the rankings with an impact factor of 5.013, and RRE jumped from 35th to 6th with an impact factor of 4.667.

Both Educational Researcher (ER) and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA) experienced increases in their impact factors as well. ER ranked 20th with an impact factor of 3.483, and EEPA was 25th with an impact factor of 3.196.

The Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS) had an impact factor of 2.042 (88th in the rankings). JEBS also has rankings in the “Social Sciences, Mathematical Methods” category (15th out of 51) and the “Psychology, Mathematical” category (5th out of 13).

Finally, AERA Open entered the rankings for the first time with an impact factor of 1.892 and a ranking of 99th of 263 journals. Inclusion in the JCR ranking reflects early recognition of a journal first published in 2015. When journals initially enter the rankings, normally their impact factors are somewhat low.
