January 2025
Effective March 1, AERA will be implementing a revised policy change regarding job postings on association listservs. The decision, made by AERA Council during its June 2024 meeting, was announced in the August 2024 issue of Highlights.
Under the new policy, all job announcements must first be posted on the AERA Job Board before they can be shared via division, special interest group (SIG), or other association listservs. Announcements that are not posted on the Job Board will no longer be eligible for distribution through AERA-affiliated email lists.
In adopting this change, AERA Council emphasized the importance of equitable and open access to job opportunities. By requiring initial postings on the Job Board, the association ensures that all job seekers—regardless of AERA membership or unit affiliation—can access the listings. The policy also benefits employers by offering broader visibility for job postings beyond any one subgroup within AERA.
Additionally, the Council highlighted the Job Board’s role as a non-dues revenue stream that supports AERA’s mission as a scientific and scholarly association. Employers seeking to post job listings can do so at a modest fee.
AERA members responsible for managing listservs need to have employers attest to having a Job Board listing prior to posting on a listserv or refer those seeking a job announcement to do so first on the AERA Job Board.
