McLaughlin Named Head of National Center for Special Education Research

Joan McLaughlin has been named commissioner of the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) at the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). McLaughlin has served as acting commissioner since July 2013. She first joined IES as deputy commissioner of NCSER in February 2009 and also served as NCSER’s program officer for the Early Intervention and Early Learning in Special Education grant program. McLaughlin will serve a six-year term as commissioner.

NCSER supports a comprehensive program of special education research. It also funds research training programs and supports IES’s mission to provide rigorous and relevant research to improve education outcomes for all students.
