Tabbye M. Chavous Named New Executive Director of the American Educational Research Association

Registration for the 2026 AERA Annual Meeting, to be held April 8–12 in Los Angeles, will open later this month. The year’s theme, “Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures: Constructing a New Vision for Education Research,” will guide a rich program of sessions and events. The meeting program will be released on Friday, January 16.

As the largest annual gathering of education researchers worldwide, the AERA Annual Meeting offers more than 2,500 sessions featuring groundbreaking scholarship and opportunities to engage with leading experts across the field. Attendees can expect a dynamic experience with opportunities to learn from prominent scholars, explore new research, participate in stimulating discussions, and build professional connections.

“We are thrilled to welcome the education research community to Los Angeles for five days of scholarship and fellowship in April,” said AERA Executive Director Tabbye Chavous. “Driven by the leadership and vision of AERA President Maisha Winn, the commitment of division and SIG chairs, and the hard work of hundreds of volunteer reviewers, the 2026 Annual Meeting will be an engaging experience for all attendees.”

Once registration opens, it will take place through re:Members, AERA’s association management system. All attendees—members and non-members—must log in or create a re:Members account. Individuals who first join or renew their 2026 AERA membership receive a significant discount on registration fees.

During registration, individuals may add optional events, such as professional development courses, and request accessibility or childcare services. The confirmation e-mail message will provide a link to the AERA Housing Bureau to book hotel accommodations.

In November, AERA launched the 2026 Annual Meeting website, offering details on registration and housing, key deadlines, conduct policies, program highlights, presenter information, and more.
