August 2025
The 2026 AERA Annual Meeting call for submissions, which closed August 1, drew an enthusiastic response from the education research community. The number of submissions for next year’s convening in Los Angeles is the highest since the 2020 Annual Meeting.
More than 25,000 unique individuals were included on paper and session submissions as presenters, discussants, commentators, and in other roles. In addition, more than 2,350 individuals served as submission reviewers. Notifications will be sent November 7.
“We are so pleased that in these challenging times for science and higher education, the education research community is affirming its commitment to connecting with peers, driving innovative research, and advancing knowledge that serves society,” said AERA Executive Director Tabbye M. Chavous. “Our convening next spring promises to be vibrant and intellectually rich, offering opportunities for rigorous exchange, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas that will shape the future of education research.”
The 2026 Annual Meeting will be held in Los Angeles on April 8–12. The theme is “Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures: Constructing a New Vision for Education Research.”
Last month, AERA announced two major speakers: Bryan Brayboy (Northwestern University), who will present the AERA Distinguished Lecture, and Bianca Baldridge (Harvard Graduate School of Education), who will deliver the AERA Wallace Foundation Distinguished Lecture.
More meeting highlights and updates will be shared in the coming weeks and months.
