April 2023

The virtual component of the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting will be held May 4–5 for all conference registrants. Along with attendees who registered only for the virtual component, registrants for the April 13–16 place-based meeting in Chicago are also automatically registered for and able to attend the May meeting at no additional charge.

AERA encourages scholars, policymakers, and practitioners who want to learn about the latest in education research and connect with others with shared interests to register

With over 300 sessions in a two-day format, the virtual component will offer a dynamic experience for attendees with opportunities to learn from leading scholars, connect with the latest research, engage in stimulating conversation, and develop and foster professional relationships. Participants will have the opportunity to contact and network with one another through individual and group chats.

High-profile Presidential and AERA Honorary President Edmund W. Gordon Series sessions showcasing leading scholars in the field will be held each day. The many significant sessions span such important topics as “Building Upon a Culturally Responsive Science of Learning and Development to Promote Robust Equity” (with AERA Past Presidents Vivian L. Gadsden, Kris D. Gutiérrez, and Carol D. Lee), “Consequential Issues for Educators and Education” (with AERA Past President Gloria J. Ladson-Billings), and “Human Variation and How People Learn” (with AERA Honorary President Edmund W. Gordon and AERA Past President Carol D. Lee).

Registrants are also able choose from numerous invited speaker, paper, and roundtable sessions and symposia held by AERA divisions, SIGs, and committees. All virtual sessions are presented live and can be accessed by clicking on the “Join” button present at each session listing in the Program Agenda. Video recordings of the sessions will also be available on demand within 24 hours after the conclusion of the virtual component.

Posters accepted for poster presentation will be available throughout the virtual meeting in the AERA i-Presentation Gallery. Virtual meeting participants will be able to contact virtual poster authors and set up times to audio or video chat through the Gallery to discuss their papers or their mutual interests in a research arena. Virtual attendees can also reach out through the Gallery to authors of papers presented in poster sessions in Chicago.
