Both the Review of Educational Research (RER) and Educational Researcher (ER) ranked in the top ten for the 2016 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), just released in June. AERA’s journals are included in the Education and Educational Research category, which consists of 235 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.

“The JCR rankings underscore the importance of the research published in our suite of journals,” AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine said. “The editors, authors, and reviewers are to be congratulated for their high standards.”

JCR ranked journals by their 2016 impact factor, which is the total number of 2016 citations to the journal’s 2014 and 2015 articles, divided by the journal’s total number of articles published those two years.

For the second year in a row RER ranked second in the Educational Research Category. RER’s impact factor of 5.263 is the journal’s highest number on record. RER has held a top-three position for seven consecutive years, and its five-year impact factor continues to rank first in the Educational Research Category.

ER’s impact factor rose from 3.049 in 2015 to 3.827 in 2016, with a shift in the rankings from seven to six.

The other AERA journals did not change materially in their impact but changed in their rankings. The Review of Research in Education ranked 32 in 2015 (based on citations to the 2013 and 2014 volumes) and 48 in 2016 (based on citations to the 2014 and 2015 volumes); both the impact scores were identical.

The Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS), cosponsored by the American Statistical Association, ranked 8th out of 13 journals on the Mathematical Psychology list. JEBS also placed in the top half of journals on the Education and Educational Research list (81st out of 230), while also turned to and used on the Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences list (17th out of 49).
