AERA Nominating Committees Announce 2017 Slates for Offices
The Nominating Committees for AERA-wide and division offices completed their work identifying candidates for the forthcoming 2017 AERA election. The AERA-wide slates include the offices of President-Elect and Members-at-Large. The nominees for AERA-wide and division elections are set forth in the Nominating Committees’ reports.
AERA Special Referendum is Approved by Members
The AERA membership approved amendments to the AERA Bylaws that establish a separate Nominating Committee for the SIG Executive Committee. Previously, the SIG Executive Committee was responsible for seating candidates to run for open positions on the Committee.

egister Now for the Second AERA Centennial Lecture in Seattle (December 6)
The AERA Centennial Lecture Series, which aims to bring innovative education research and leading scholars to six cities across the United States, kicks off this evening (November 30) in Brooklyn, New York. On December 6, the second Centennial lecture and open forum will take place in Seattle, Washington.
Past President David R. Krathwohl Dies
AERA Past President (1968–1969) David R. Krathwohl died on October 13, 2016. Krathwohl was a leading education psychology researcher at several major universities, who authored and co-authored multiple books that have been widely translated and used by higher education institutions worldwide and served in national, regional, and campus leadership positions over the course of his career.

With the transition to the incoming Donald Trump administration now underway, indications about possible key education and science appointments are closely being tracked by the research community in Washington, D.C. On November 23, President-elect Trump announced the selection of Betsy DeVos, chairwoman for the American Federation for Children, as the Secretary of Education.
National Board for Education Sciences and National Science Board Convene
The National Board for Education Sciences (NBES), the governing board for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), held a conference call on November 9. The National Science Board (NSB) convened for its fall quarterly meeting on November 8-9.
