Maxine Greene Archives
For her distinguished contributions to the philosophy of education, Dr. Greene will be remembered as an exemplary scholar, inspirational educator, and visionary in educational research and practice. As part of a project titled Inside the Academy, I had the pleasure of interviewing Maxine three years ago (when she was 93) at her home in Manhattan. These open-source videos should help to "always" keep her "becoming." See the full videos (along with her photo gallery and reflections from her family and friends) here: http://insidetheacademy.asu.edu/maxine-greene. See also a short 3-minute video capturing some of the interview highlights here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8hp8GD8-p4

Maxine Greend
Maxine Greene, who earned the distinction of becoming the greatest American educational philosopher of her time while overcoming the bias toward women in higher education, will always be remembered for her eloquent voice in support of the arts at all levels of education. With grace, wit, and charm, she captured and captivated her audiences. Always a gentle person she nevertheless exhibited a steely determination to make her case known; and she succeeded. In these days when national politicians are driving education toward mechanistic goals, it is a pity there is not another Maxine.
