AERA Announces 2014 Award Winners in Education Research
AERA will honor the recipients for their outstanding scholarship and service at an awards ceremony on April 5 at the AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.
Jeannie Oakes Voted AERA President-Elect
Jeannie Oakes, director of the Ford Foundation’s programs in Educational Equity and Scholarship, has been voted AERA president-elect. She will serve as president during AERA’s centennial year, following one year of service as president-elect.

Cordóva and Cook Join NSF at Challenging Time
The National Science Foundation welcomes two new leaders—France Cordóva as NSF director and Fay Lomax Cook as assistant director for NSF’s Directorate for Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences. The appointments come at an intense period of unrest for the social science community, with the House poised to cut SBE funding.
Obama Budget Proposal Boosts Investment Over 2014 for Federal Education Research and Data
President Barack Obama released his administration’s recommendations for the FY 2015 budget on March 4. Funding for research overall would increase only by a small amount.
Education Department Releases Guidance on Data Privacy
The U.S. Department of Education’s Privacy Technical Assistance Center published guidance
on February 25 to assist schools, districts, and third-party online educational service vendors in complying with provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
