Membership Drive

The Semiotics in Education: Signs, Meanings, and Multimodality SIG is undergoing a membership drive to increase the number of scholars, researchers, practitioners, and students who desire to learn and share their work with others in the field of semiotics.

In recent decades, work in multimodality and social semiotics has been grown across all disciplines. The SIG should reflect and represent this diversity in disciplinary perspectives, approaches, and cutting edge research using social semiotics.  New membership is urgently needed to reflect the diversity in all fields of educational research and all levels of educational development. Please reach out to colleagues and students who may be interested in joining the Semiotics in Education SIG.

Membership is $7.00 (1 yr); students $5.00 (1 yr). Directions for joining the SIG are located at the Membership link on the sidebar.

If we do not act quickly, the Semiotics in Education SIG may be subject to deactivation. Clearly, given the burgeoning research in the area of social semiotics and multimodality, there is a great deal of interest and enthusiasm for work in this area. Help us channel this interest and enthusiasm into the SIG.  All ideas are welcome.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Mary McVee, Chair

We want to highlight your work!

Do you have a recently published article or book chapter in the realm of social semiotics, multimodality, and/or media? Are you looking for an outlet to share or propose a project that relates to our SIG? As our SIG grows, we want to highlight the work of our members in the effort to:

  • generate conversation around what is current in social semiotics and multimodal educational research
  • foster collaborations in scholarly work across our membership
  • broaden the impact and reach of such scholarly work

If you have work you would like to share, please email AERAsig.semiotics@gmail.com the following information:

  1. Title of your publication or work
  2. A 50-150 word summary of your work
  3. A link to where we can find it (if applicable)
  4. An APA citation of your work

We will then share your work on our social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and this website.
