Countdown to the 2012 Annual Meeting
January 2012
The 2012 Annual Meeting is less than three months away, and there is evident buzz about convening in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The meeting, which will take place from Friday, April 13, to Tuesday, April 17, is themed “
Non Satis Scire:
To Know Is Not Enough.” AERA President Arnetha Ball chose the theme to highlight the importance of looking beyond research findings and using education research to improve education and serve the public good.
Already, the 2012 Annual Meeting is shaping up to be one of AERA’s largest meetings, with broad international draw. Preregistration is running high, and lodging at the meeting hotels is beginning to fill. AERA expects a presence from 60 or more countries—about 15% of the total attendees. There were over 12,000 submissions, of which more than 6,000 have been selected to be showcased at the meeting.
The 2012 Annual Meeting will feature a full opening plenary session with lecturer Linda T. Smith, University of Waikato, followed by an AERA reception for attendees. As the meeting takes place in Canada, AERA has been working in close collaboration with the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE). The CSSE is sponsoring nine symposium sessions over the course of the meeting.
The World Education Research Association (WERA) will convene at the 2012 Annual Meeting. There will be special WERA sessions on April 16 and 17, and the WERA council meeting will take place on April 18.
