AERA Members Pedro Antonio Noguera and Cristóbal Rodríguez Appointed to Presidential Commission on Educational Equity and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics

AERA members Pedro Antonio Noguera and Cristóbal Rodríguez are two of 20 individuals who have been appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as members on the President’s Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics.

The commission will provide advice to the president on matters pertaining to educational equity and economic opportunity for the Hispanic and Latino community. It will assist on issues such as developing programs and initiatives to improve opportunities, promoting career pathways for in-demand jobs, expanding institutional capacity to serve Hispanic and Latino students, increasing public awareness of challenges and disparities that Hispanic and Latino students face, and establishing local and national partnerships.

Noguera

Pedro Antonio Noguera is the Emery Stoops and Joyce King Stoops Dean of the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. He previously was a Distinguished Professor of Education and holder of endowed chairs at the University of California, Los Angeles; New York University; Harvard University; and the University of California, Berkeley.

Cristóbal Rodríguez

Cristóbal Rodríguez is the associate dean of equity, inclusion, and community engagement at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College of Arizona State University. Prior to his current role, he was assistant professor at New Mexico State University and associate professor at Howard University. He has served on the executive committee of the University Council for Educational Administration since 2019.
