AERA has announced a Youth Teams in Education Research (YTER) Special Program to be held as part of the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting. The program will take place on April 13–15, the first three days of the place-based component of the Annual Meeting in Chicago.

The initiative will bring teams of high school students to present their work in a high-profile featured poster session and to participate in a mini-workshop to discuss the research projects ongoing at their respective high schools, issues consequential to them in their studies, and potential opportunities for continuing to pursue research engagements. During the workshop, students will have an opportunity to meet with early career and accomplished senior scholars. During their time at the Annual Meeting they will also attend a select group of sessions featuring major speakers.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with youth in ways that have the potential to inspire, shape, and expand the next generation of education research talent,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “This special initiative will give talented youth a unique opportunity to spotlight their research and to network with their peers. It also builds on AERA’s commitment to advancing the field by encouraging and supporting systematic inquiry and evidence-based analysis.”

Students from up to 10 high schools will be competitively selected to participate in the YTER Special Initiative. The program is designed for high school students who are currently working with an education researcher(s) on the researcher’s study or are being advised by an education researcher. Applications will be advanced by education researchers, who will provide an overview of their work with high school youth on research. High school teachers or those at other organizations who are guiding high school students in research are also eligible to apply.

Teams selected to participate will receive partial funding support to attend the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Eligible YTER proposals need to include a minimum of four and a maximum of eight high school students. Proposals are due December 20. To learn more, read the Call for Proposals.
