January 2024

The 2024 AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia will feature a program of 12 professional development and training courses covering topics in education research design; quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods; meta-analysis; and other data analysis techniques. The courses begin on Wednesday, April 10, one day prior to the start of the Annual Meeting. Led by an expert faculty of researchers and scholars, these courses are designed at various levels to reach graduate students, early career scholars, faculty, and other education researchers working in public, nonprofit, and private sector settings.

Courses such as “Designing Quantitative Evaluation Studies” (PD24-1) will show education researchers how to plan small quantitative evaluation studies to ensure that the results are conclusive. The instructors of “Developing Tools for Analysis Using Narratives” (PD24-11) will help researchers develop versatility and strength in analytic skills that will enable them to produce nuanced and trustworthy findings.

“We are pleased to offer such a strong lineup of courses during this year’s Annual Meeting,” said AERA Executive Director Felice Levine. “This robust program offers unsurpassed opportunities for scholars and researchers at all levels to develop and hone their research skills and elevate their scholarly work.”

To encourage participation in these in-person courses, AERA is charging members a modest fee of $115 each for the full-day courses and $85 each for the half-day courses ($145 or $110, respectively, for non-members).

One course, “Writing an Application for an IES Grant” (PD24-8), is by application only. The application deadline is Monday, February 12, 2024. There is no fee associated with this course. This course will provide instruction on writing a successful grant application to the two primary research grant programs of the Institute of Education Sciences.

Professional development courses can be added at registration under "Optional Events." Courses can also be added to existing Annual Meeting registrations in the My AERA section of the AERA website. Questions about the courses should be directed to profdevel@aera.net.

Full course descriptions with a list of faculty and course dates and times are available on the Annual Meeting website. Early registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
