The purpose of the Second Language Research (SLR) SIG is to: 

• Contribute to and promote useful research that advances the understanding of second language learning and teaching 
• Encourage all types of inquiry from various epistemologies, qualitative and quantitative, basic and applied, and policy research in second language education, broadly defined, and
• Create a forum for innovative approaches in this field of inquiry through presentations, discussions, formal and informal meetings, and publications.
